The Solution
After quantifying the issue, the company’s senior manager of advanced manufacturing excellence reached out to Levata. The team’s extensive industry and technological expertise and proven processes made them uniquely qualified to position the company for success.
Levata began the project by assessing two of the company’s plants, selecting one for a pilot. Levata took the lead, recommending the optimal technologies to meet the company’s objectives. Levata also invited the company’s executive team to the our plant in Howell, MI, to see the technology in action, which enabled them to move forward with the pilot with confidence.
Levata focused on shipping issues first, implementing RFID Dock Door solutions to automate data collection. Then, Levata worked backward through the operation to optimize processes in finished goods, production, and raw materials, and then receiving and installed a total of 30 dock door solutions. Levata discovered that forklift drivers were using paper pick lists and deployed rugged tablets, accommodating both Windows and Android applications in use in the operation, to digitize processes and printers so workers could print their own labels. The solution for the plant also included mobile computers, premium customer care, and TrueSupport for mobile computers, tablets, and printer service and support.
The company chose an end-to-end solution software for monitoring all assets and gaining visibility into its operation and supply chain. Additionally, the company invested in over a million RFID labels to capture data from the inventory across the entire plant and instantly locate products or materials.
Benefits and Results
The successful pilot demonstrated that the RFID solution would deliver fast ROI by drastically decreasing mis-shipments and increasing efficiency throughout the plant. The company initiated processes to integrate the system with its ERP within a few months and invited plant managers from other locations to the pilot location to understand how the solution works. The company plans to roll out the solution to its other sites over the next three to five years.
