The Opticon MDC-100 is a very compact CCD-based barcode scan engine designed for integration into handheld or embedded devices. It features a built-in decoder and scans linear (1D) barcodes at a rate of up to 300 scans per second, while using minimal power (max 120 mA at 3.3 V), which makes it efficient for battery-powered or energy-sensitive applications. Its tiny form factor (22.8 × 11.5 × 15 mm, and only about 3.5 g) allows it to fit into space-constrained products, and its all–solid-state design (no moving parts) improves durability and reliability. The MDC-100 supports both RS-232 and USB interfaces, giving flexibility in how it connects to host systems, and performs well across varying environmental conditions — with an operating temperature range from –20 °C to +65 °C and humidity tolerance from 5 % to 90 %. It’s widely used in OEM solutions for retail, logistics, kiosks, medical devices or other embedded scanning systems where compactness, speed and reliability matter.
